Are you still looking for essential pieces to add to your Autumn collection? Recently, I donated the bulk of my closet and kept about 15% to myself. Let me tell you, there were still pieces in there that I wore in college and it was time for me to get rid of it. I think I just got comfortable in my clothes because they are casual, trendy and easy of throw on. Yeah, I got way too comfortable, LMAO. It’s always easy to pick and choose items for other people, but when it came to doing me… I took the backseat instead of shotgun. Most items went to a local women’s shelter, while the other went to Goodwill. This gave my closet some extra room and opportunity to rebuild to better collection that matches my current style and mood. With the things that I did keep, it makes for a great foundation to an banging wardrobe. Are you wondering how to transform your warbrobe, but need the basics? Here are a few pieces that are great to start out with if you are building from scratch or just adding to freshen things up.
1 | DENIM JACEKT
Everything closet for men and women, need this one accessory. Denim jackets look great when worn with a casual outfits. I have two denim jackets: light stonewashed and dark. They are perfect for a quick throw-on and can be worn daily, with just about any outfit.
2 | THICK NAVAL STYLE PEACOAT
One of this season’s trending items, the navy coat is an absolute fav of mine and has always had a place in my closet since I can remember. For the areas that are a bit colder than others, the peacoat comes in handy because of the double breasted feature. As I kid, I just knew in my mind, the reason it was double breasted was to block your chest from the cold. I was pretty smart… I still think the same to this day, in fact. I’ve never really researched to see why it is, but that’s my opinion I’ve lived with. If anyone else has their take on it, please share. I’d love to hear your view.
3 | SLINKY BRALETTE (BRALET)
Do you have any bralettse (bravest) yet? If you don’t, you should. You can wear them just like a regular bra and cover it up, you know… the boring way or you can wear them like a bra and show it off. Wait, let me say this first. If you select one that is completely lace, you may want to go ahead of cover up those nips before stepping out. If you have the styles that are opaque, wearing these tops with deep V neck t-shirts or with cardigans and wraps look pretty cute. I have to types: lacey and satin and I really love them. They are a little less annoying because there isn’t a underwire (you may find some that have underwire though).
4 | MOCK OR TURTLE NECK DRESS
Oh there is something sexy about a form fitting ribbed or jersey dress. I’ve featured these dresses in a couple of fashion inspirational posts and the styling was absolutely gorgeous. I’ve paired them with hooded jackets, denim jackets, sneakers, knee high boots and booties… you can do just about anything. I own two of these dresses, one with a slit up the side and the other that doesn’t. You can wear this dress year around. For cooler seasons, try layering this dress with knee high boots, a sleek peacoat and slouchy scarves. For the warmer seasons, wear the dress solo with flats or sandals with your choice of accessories.
5 | KNEE HIGH BOOTS
Not so much the thigh high boots, even though they are positively one of the sexiest items every woman must have. This can be flats, wedged or heeled. I, for one, love a good 4 to 4.5 inch heel with a platform. I usually tell women, if you’re the type that can’t take too much pressure on the ball of your feet for long periods of time and love your high heels, invest in platformed heels. Platforms give you the extra cushion that regular soled heels don’t. Think of this… if you were to step on a rock, with regular soled heels… you would be able to feel everything beneath your feet and to be honest, I hurts something serious when you are strutting and it comes out of nowhere. Oh it’s happened to me and I’m sure LOTS of ladies out there hundreds of times.
6 | SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED TOTE
Ok, raise your hand if you are one of those ladies that LOVE an extra large handbag, but are guilty of only carrying lipgloss, wallet and your phone in it… *raises hand* LMAO. I am sooo not embarrassed to say that I love large bags, but only find it necessary to carry little to nothing in it. If you are like me, but still want to set your outfit, grab yourself and small to medium sized bag of that same bag you just have to have. Many designers design smaller versions of their bags for this same purpose. Listen, I may have some other items in my bag floating around so I’d say medium to large would be a perfect fit for me. I so can’t wait to do a What’s In My Handbag video for you so you can see what I am talking about, LOL.
7 | SLOUCH FOLD OVER CLUTCH
You absolutely need something like this, like right now! This style clutch can be dressed up or dress down and you know, I’m all about versatility. When choosing the right fold over clutch, make sure to select something with extra side pockets inside with zippers. Once upon a time, I bought a clutch that had the open slip pockets and forgot to close my bag. Long story short, while it was sitting on my lap and I stood up, everything can pouring out the opened because I totally forgot to close the exterior zipper *mad face* The moral is… make sure you have enough room and INTERIOR ZIPPERS!
8 | SUPER CUTE WIDE BRIM HAT
One of my favorite designers is Janessa Leone. These can be worn year around and look great with just about anything. I, particularly love the Bohemian style and this brand fits in great if you’re looking for that perfect accessory.
